Rover: from tricycle to electric quadricycle

The history of the Rover brand begins more than 130 years ago: the company J.K. Starley & Sutton Co produces the then extremely innovative three-wheeled bicycle, which offered significantly greater safety compared to the usual high wheels. An electrically powered prototype followed just four years later, followed by the first motorcycle in 1902 and finally the company's first own automobile, the Rover Eight, in 1904.

The successful Land Rover brand

The British automaker went to extremes with its models and always put the functionality of the cars first. For example, the Rover Eight drove from London to Constantinople as proof of its reliability, the Light-Six model raced against the famous French express train Train Bleu in 1930 and won with a fabulous 20-minute lead. And last but not least, the development in 1947 of a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle optimized for agricultural use gave the brand an unexpected sales hit: the Land Rover was born. The popular Range Rover followed in 1970 - and the rest is history.
