The origins of the "brand with the star"


The Mercedes-Benz brand was originally founded as Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft in 1890 and was first given its present name by the businessman Emil Jellinek, who, inspired by the name of his daughter, included Mercedes in the product designation of the vehicles. In 1926, the company merged with its competitor Benz & Cie. to form Daimler-Benz AG with the brand name Mercedes-Benz and the famous Mercedes star. From then on, the company's success is unstoppable.

Daimler-Benz AG quickly consolidates its position in the upper and luxury class of automobiles, defies numerous crises and is particularly successful in the US market. In 1994, the smart brand was acquired, followed a little later by the Chrysler brand. Today, Mercedes-Benz holds its own against its biggest competitors Audi and VW with steadily rising sales figures and its still most popular model series, the C-Class.
